Thank you for taking the time to talk with us today Catfish Seminar. We are loving your latest release. So hard to choose but our favorite is Park Bench. It feels so personal. Did you both write the song? If so – will you share with us what that was like?
Andi Jane: We write a lot of songs together, but this is one I wrote by myself. I woke up one day, hungover and sad, and walked outside to see the car of the person I was dating (whom I had left on a park bench after a bad fight the night before) sitting in my driveway. I was going over in my head what I did wrong, what he did wrong, and if we could reconcile it. After stewing for a while, I realized I could either sit in my misery and suffer, or write a song about it. So I picked up my guitar and started writing. I’ll be honest, it was one of the easiest songs I’ve ever written, because it was just so true, word for word.
Tell us all about yourself – when did you start pursuing music?
Craig- I credit coming from a small farm in Illinois for my pursuit towards music. There was always a lot of work to do, but playing the guitar and the harmonica made it more interesting and passed the time with more imagination. I remember writing lyrics as a kid or just my thoughts on a page. I then taught myself how to play guitar and all of a sudden, I was writing songs. I found myself in Denver, CO, trying to chase a dream….then Nashville. Wow what a journey it’s been!
Andi Jane- I’ve always made music, but I didn’t start seriously pursuing it until I moved to Nashville 4 years ago. I lived in Chicago before that, and in one 2 week span of time, everything that tethered me to that city evaporated before my eyes, and my new freedom allowed me to sit back and think about what I really wanted to do. I knew it was music. A friend of mine told me she was moving to Nashville for a music career, and it seemed like as good an idea as any!
If you could choose any artist to go on tour with, who would it be and why?
Andi Jane – Either Shovels and Rope or Sierra Ferrel. Both are genre-bending Americana, as are we, and I love their originality, their songs, and their performances.
Craig – Lucas Nelson, Railroad Earth, The Secret Sisters, Hayes Carle, Garth Brooks, I mean, hey you gotta shoot for the moon, right? I love being a part of shows that cross genres. We have played with jazz ensembles, pop artists, folk singers, I’ve recorded harmonica on a few rap tracks, and we even dove into the bluegrass scene this summer!
If we were riding in your car with you what music would we hear coming out of the speakers?
Andi- I listen to the radio mostly–college and independent stations are the best. Americana, pop, old country, jazz, whatever I find that my ears like. If I’m not playing the radio, I’m listening to CDs from shows I’ve seen recently or friends’ albums–Kiely Connel, Cam Pierce, Lydia Brittan, Kellen Claymore, Arreis Rising are some faves!
Craig- I love 89.5 WMOT. I would say that is my top local station. I also enjoy listening to new artists and their albums. There is nothing like the story told by a complete record. I enjoy all genres. If it’s good, it’s good.

Yes, actually! We have a live recording we plan to release, with details still in the works!
