Packing 9 Originals and 2 Traditional songs. The multi-instrumentalist from The great Lone Star State is Immediately taking me back to some southern, deep folk/midwestern country influences. Weaving the fiddle like a enchanting spell and the hauntingly emotion driven voice delicately over top. The first track “Ungrounded” will really strike you with a soft and eerie voice that reminds you a little of Art Garfunkel. With amazing pitch control and letting the notes sustain gracefully, he can almost transport you through time with some traditional Folk influences. Second track “Fleety” has this magical aura of combining the soft “comfort food” sound of true to the blue Country with a perfect twist of Surf Rock elements to keep the songs feeling Sunny and Bright on the beachside, keeping the dark rain clouds from overwhelming the listener throughout the Album.

Another song that stood out was the 5th Track “Tug at Stars” because many albums have interludes or transitional pieces to carry one song to the other. This track takes the listener for a more relaxed journey and feels like a rest stop between the adventures of the previous songs in blissful instrumentals. Having lots of space between these instruments they almost take you by surprise, leaving you waiting for his voice to return, keeping you at the edge of your seat. These instrumental jams show the virtuosity and skill in Everetts playing, making it easy to believe he’s been at it since the age of 4.
Halfway through the album we find ourselves nodding our heads to a riff heavy and catchy song “Find a Way Home”. Punching through like a hot knife with a guitar intro that would make Johnny Cash turn his head, leading into a laid-back shuffle with some more surf rock elements to carry the settings for his Unique approach to his story telling. Having a grasp on your emotions through his lyrics. He can capture musical mastery as well as small human moments, that draw the audience for closure. Keeping them heard and involved to the story until the end of the song. The one thing I keep looping back to when I hear these amazing songs is I would like to hear some more low end on some of the tracks.
The track “Coffee & Jam” sets the stage of the amazing talent of Everett Wren’s Fiddle playing. His remarkable phrasing has traditional elements with a unique blend of melodic mastery has you hypnotized. Ending the album beautifully with “Weeping Willow Tree” in tear filling harmonies between the gorgeous exchange of voices, stunning and laid-back jam sections. Showing the listener how he can sing through his Fiddle, and he has more than one voice. This song captures the magic and the tone for the whole album before it. Wrapping up this incredibly personal journey of the story tellin’ fiddler multi-instrumentalist Everett Wren.
