Ella Mai’s single “DFMU” has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, bumping Silk Sonic’s “Love’s Train” out of the top spot.
Mai’s latest feat, which secures her fourth No. 1, ends the R&B duo’s ten-week reign.
“DFMU,” which Mai performed at the 2022 BET Awards, is her third-fastest climb to the summit of this chart, following the blockbuster hit “Boo’d Up” and its follow-up smash “Trip.” The Grammy-winning single touched the top spot in 12 weeks, while its successor did so in 13 weeks.
Mai’s feature on Usher’s “Don’t Waste My Time” took the longest to win the No. 1 title in June 2020. It topped in its 25th chart week.
In April 2021, Mai’s “Not Another Love Song” came close to the top floor, but it was blocked by Silk Sonic’s instant classic “Leave The Door Open.”
Noted as the second single from Mai’s album Heart On My Sleeve, “DFMU” has already amassed more than 16.6 million streams on Spotify since its January release.
Mai released Heart On My Sleeve on May 6. The follow-up to her 2018 self-titled album bowed at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart in its first week. It also opened at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.
Recent promotional efforts for the new album included the 2022 BET Awards, where performed three songs, including “How” with Roddy Rich. Mai and Babyface also delivered their debut performance of “Keeps On Fallin’.”
Later this fall, Mai will support Mary J. Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous Tour. The tour starts on Sept. 17 and concludes Oct. 29.
In other music-related news, Mai appears on “Sex Memories,” from Chris Brown’s new album Breezy.
“She’s one of the dopest vocalists,” Brown said about Mai to Big Boy. “She just understands the rhythm in R&B and how to sing. The song that we have…she named like six or seven songs that I’ve done but as metaphors within her verse.”
