Pop star Doja Cat and German metal band Chaver have something in common: essentially the same artwork for their upcoming albums, each coming out on the same day.
Doja Cat’s new LP, Scarlet, due September 22nd, features a painting of a pinkish arachnid with a drop of blood above it. Chaver’s new full-length, Of Gloom, also due September 22nd, depicts the same arachnid (with its legs in slightly different positions) but with a more circular dot and their band name above it.
It appears that both images are from the same artist, Dusty Ray, who either committed the cardinal sin of supplying two music acts with basically the same artwork or somehow cleared the near-duplicate image with both Doja Cat and Chaver. Or, perhaps, there’s something fishy going on?
Chaver shared their album’s artwork on Instagram about a month ago (see below), and mentioned their longterm relationship with Ray at the time: “The striking cover art, masterfully crafted by Dusty Ray @sloppjockey_ert (who has been with us since our first album), serves as a captivating contrast to the album’s intense music, setting the stage for a trip to a place of pain.”
Doja Cat, meanwhile, unveiled her LP’s artwork yesterday on Instagram (also below), simply captioning it: “SCARLET 9.22.”
And the artist Dusty Ray seems to be fully aware of both album covers, having shared the image of Doja Cat’s Scarlet on X (formerly Twitter).
Doja Cat will support Scarlet with a North American tour kicking off October 31st in San Francisco, with tickets available here.
