Grammy and Oscar-nominated singer, songwriter, and producer DIXSON has returned with his new single “Friends.”
The velvety track was produced by Camper and co-written by DIXSON, TA Thomas, and Terrell “Tre” Roper.
“You and your friends / Me and my friends / We can make plans for thе night / Got a couple bands / Need a Superman / I’ll be your kryptonitе / Ass so cheeky / Watch it like TV / Bite it, I’m greedy,” DIXSON sings in the chorus.
“Friends” is DIXSON’s first song release of 2023. It marks the beginning of a new era since his 2022 project, 004DAISY, which included features from Sevyn Streeter (“Cherry Sorbét“), Tinashe (“Heat“), and more.
Regarding 004DAISY, DIXSON said, “I’m not trying to be R&B’s personal Jesus. I’m not as worried about R&B as the rappers and white boys are. 004DAISY is the beta, my own version of freedom.”
He continued, “If you let them, they will box you in. This is me boxing back. Round 1. Punching mediocre square in the jaw. My drive is expanding. From God’s ears to yours. Enjoy.”
In February 2021, DIXSON released his debut EP, DARLING. The seven-track offering included his steamy bedroom jam, “Kream,” and featured guest appearances from India Shawn and Inayah.
In the same year, Beyoncé released “Be Alive” from the King Richard soundtrack, which DIXSON produced and co-wrote with Bey. It was nominated for Best Original Song at the 79th Golden Globes.
DIXSON reacted to the nomination in an exclusive interview with Rated R&B. “I never expected to be nominated so early in my career for something this high of an honor,” he told Rated R&B. “To land a song with one of the biggest and most talented people in the world was huge for me. Then, to be recognized by an industry that I don’t really do a lot of work in showed me that the possibilities are endless.”
“Be Alive” also scored an Oscar nod for Best Original Song at the 94th Academy Awards.
