Destin Conrad has returned with his new album, Submissive, via Above Ground Entertainment.
The nine-track offering includes the previously shared songs “Switch,” “Outta Control” and “Luv n Devotion.” It also features guest appearances from Masego and Jordan Conrad.
Submissive opens with “Mariposa,” co-produced by ESTA., Louie Lastic and Mack Keane. Here, Conrad sings about a complicated partner who, despite it all, still gives him butterflies.
“I don’t mind playin’ every side with you / Give it time, it’s personal the way you do me / Out your mind, still when you come around I get butterflies,” he sings.
On the jazzy “Low Tide,” Conrad finds himself in deep thought after taking some magic mushrooms. He mopes about a potential love interest who is already romantically occupied by someone.
“What I’m hearin’ is true / That you and so-and-so been rockin’ on the low / I met him the other night, and lowkey he a vibe, though / Wish I could give you more,” Conrad croons.
Regarding his new album, Conrad shares, “Submissive usually has a sexual connotation, but I’m coming from more of a submitting to non-physical things, submitting to change, submitting to not knowing.”
He continues, “So much has changed in my life that has forced me to submit. I didn’t realize at the time that it gave me the power to be dominant, to be assertive, to be an adult, to grow. Submission as a superpower.”
Submissive is the follow-up to Conrad’s 2022 album, Satin. The project featured appearances from Kiana Ledé, Ambré and Jean Deaux.
In 2021, Conrad released his debut album, Colorway. Ambré appeared on that album, too, as well as SwaVay.
