What started as a passion project to create a great blues album, has now become a successful collaborative venture for Christopher Wyze & The Tellers. Now they present a live video performance of their single, ‘Stuck In The Mud‘, recorded at the historical Juke Joint Chapel in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Wyze comes from southern Indiana, but somehow he’s always being pulled back to Clarksdale, not just for the music, but also the town itself. And so, he’s created a documentary, ‘Wyze In Clarksdale’, which covers the story of a small region that’s steeped in musical history. Hosted by Wyze himself, it’s an intimate, personal tour, and celebrates the vibrant community of Clarksdale, and their quest to keep the blues ferociously alive.
Recorded at the Juke Joint Chapel, Wyze’s new album, ‘Live In Clarksdale’ builds on the momentum brought with his studio album, ‘Stuck In The Mud’. He’s brought together a new group of musicians to bring the album to life on stage, and together they take the opportunity to showcase their talent, and have a great time doing it.
In the live video for ‘Stuck In The Mud’, fans will notice that Wyze is accompanied on vocals by Irene Smits, who he met years ago at the Shack Up Inn. The collaboration on the latest track came out of the blue, with Smits messaging Wyze to say that she’d come over to Clarksdale from her home in The Netherlands, to perform at a nearby venue – on the same day as Wyze’s live performance. He of course asked her to join the band on stage for this track, and the result – perfection. There’s such chemistry between the pair, with a whole new energy given to the song. It’s just a small taste of the whole live album, which features eight of the band’s original studio singles, and two blues standards from the 1920s, ‘How Long, How Long Blues’, and, ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out’.
