Christina Milian is finally addressing the rumors that she and Jennifer Lopez have longstanding music industry beef.
Milian, who co-wrote and provided background vocals for Lopez’s hit 2001 single “Play,” told Page Six she couldn’t be happier the song went to Lopez.
“Hands down, she killed it. She’s so good. I love that song. And I couldn’t believe at 19 years old [that] I wrote a song for J.Lo.,” Milian said.

For years, rumors have swirled that Milian didn’t receive proper credit for her vocals being featured on “Play.”
“It’s funny when people talk about this being kind of a thing about me singing on the song with Jennifer. I mean, I have background singers on some of my songs. It’s no different than Michael Jackson having background singers on songs or Britney Spears. This is what music is made of. You want a blend of voices. It makes songs better, to me,” she told the tabloid.

Milian doubled down that she doesn’t need a featured artist credit for “Play.”
“I don’t need a feature credit. I’m on the credits for whatever nature, as a writer and for singing backgrounds. There is credit for that. I’m also just so happy that she did it because she’s an icon, she’s amazing,” Milian gushed.

After giving “Play” to Lopez, Milian released her debut single “AM to PM.”
According to Page Six, she chose to give away “Play” and release that song instead because at the time, she didn’t think her record label would want her debut album to feature “two party songs.”
“Play” is off Lopez’s album J.Lo, which came out in 2001.
Milian’s song “AM to PM” also came out in 2001 and is off her self-titled 2002 debut album.
