Grammy-nominated country superstar Jimmie Allen is an ally of R&B and soul. The Milton, Delaware, native has enlisted CeeLo Green and T-Pain for “Pesos,” lifted from his latest album, Tulip Drive, out now.
“Pesos” was co-written by all acts and produced by Vic “BillboardKiller” Martin (K-Ci Hailey, Nick Carter) and Vinny Venditto (Rick Ross, Eminem).
The stunt-heavy anthem finds Allen, Green, and T-Pain flexing their success and having a good time in the name of the bag.
“Live for the night, live for the lights / Hand in the air if you’re throwin’ dinero / We takin’ flights, it’s mile-high tonight / Ain’t worrying ’bout a thing ’cause we’re swimmin’ in pesos, pesos,” Allen sings over the salsa-flavored track.
Of his Tulip Drive, Allen says, “This is the first [album] where I chose to write songs about my own personal experiences, thoughts and hopes… A lot of these songs are based off things I went through when I was in later in high school and college, at a place where I was just learning a lot of life lessons from my grandmother.”
In April, Allen invited Monica to perform “Pray” alongside him and Little Big Town at the CMT Music Awards. The song appears on his Bettie James Gold Edition album, released in June 2021.
T-Pain, who recently launched his self-curated Wiscansin Fest, partnered with Alka-Seltzer® to be the face of their new Hangover Relief product. He also remixed their timeless “Plop Plop, Fizz Fizz” jingle.
On June 3, T-Pain’s sophomore album Epiphany was certified double platinum by the RIAA for selling more than two million equivalent units. The album was released on June 5, 2007.
T-Pain also accumulated four other certifications this year, including a 7x multi-platinum award for “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” featuring Yung Joc.
In March, his Kehlani-assisted single “I Like Dat,” which samples the hit single mentioned above, reached gold status for surpassing sales of 500,000 equivalent units.
Green recently received an honorary doctorate in humanitarianism from Global International Alliance University. The accomplishment follows his James Brown tribute tour announcement.
“I’ve always felt deeply connected to James Brown on a musical level and beyond. He’s been a mentor, teacher, and literally a godfather to me throughout my career and I remain humble as I embark upon this embodiment,” said Green.
“I’ve been studying the era to perfect the show and also James Brown’s archive to make this moment authentic, and a real dedication to what he gave to us and every generation that follows. Together, let’s turn this into the ultimate experience and celebration of James Brown and real music all over.”
Green is performing a series of Soul Brotha #100 dates throughout the summer. Get details and ticket information here.
In September 2021, Green teamed up with Rated R&B to premiere the music video for Rare Essence-assisted track “Baby Don’t You Go-Go.” The song was released in June 2021.
