Released on May 17, ‘Postcode Grief’ is the new single from Benjamin Haycock. An examination of the reality of living in the inner city, it additionally offers honest and introspective reflections about grief, community, and hope.

Drawing from his personal experience, having grown up in inner city Birmingham, Benjamin Haycock explores the challenges faced every day, when confronted by the likes of postcode wars, gangs, and seemingly endless violence. ‘Postcode Grief’ serves as a poignant reminder of what families and children and young people living in these areas are regularly confronted with, through no fault of their own, simply because of where they live.
Lyrically, Haycock is able to, with evocative storytelling, share a haunting picture of these struggles, hardships, and heartache, relayed by his impassioned vocals and haunting melodies.
The tragedy of circumstance nonetheless gives way to a powerful message of hope, and unity. Soul-stirring lyrics make ‘Postcode Grief’ not simply a song to evoke pity response, but rather serves as a clarion call for all of us to bond together and fight for a change in society, and support one another as a community.
Benjamin Haycock has over the past decade made a name for himself as a multi-talented artist, known for his beautiful guitar playing, evocative lyrics, and powerful rap talent. In 2021 he appeared on ‘The Voice UK’, where he performed an emotional rendition of his song, ‘Restlessness’, which he had written as a letter to his late father. The song so affected the coaches that all four turned their chairs around. Benjamin subsequently released ‘Restlessness’ as a single, topping the iTunes singer-songwriter charts.
Following ‘Restlessness’, Benjamin released his second EP, ‘Enigma’s Quay’, which was then followed up by a partnership with Australian guitar company ‘Maton’, and him subsequently becoming one of their prestigious artists and global ambassadors.
Additionally, Benjamin released his single ‘Force for Nature’, in collaboration with The Tree Council’s environmental campaign, “Be a Force for Nature”. The accompanying music video was premiered in more than 1,000 schools, and the song was featured by NOTION. Because of this, Benjamin was commissioned to produce a musical composition for a film which was displayed at the COP26 Climate conference in Glasgow.
