As teased, Ari Lennox has released her new single “Get Close,” co-produced by Wu10 and DZL. It marks her first offering of solo music this year.
Lennox desires closer proximity to her irresistible suitor on the sultry track, despite their differences. “You like Tupac, I like Janet / So damn stubborn, I won’t have it / I laugh at it, boobies grab it,” she sings.
“Get Close” is Lennox’s first single since her fan favorite “Waste My Time.” The song reached No. 1 on R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
It was Lennox’s third consecutive No. 1 single on both charts, following her feature on Summer Walker’s “Unloyal” and “Pressure.”
The latter song, Lennox’s first chart-topper on any chart, was the lead single from her sophomore album, age/sex/location, released in September 2022.
It also was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in May 2022 for selling more than 500,000 equivalent units in the U.S.
It’s unclear if “Get Close” will be the lead single from Lennox’s highly anticipated third album or a standalone track.
As noted above, Lennox’s last album, age/sex/location, dropped Sept. 8, 2022, via Dreamville/Interscope Records. The album boasted features from Summer Walker, Lucky Daye, and Chlöe.
Rated R&B ranked age/sex/location at No. 5 among its 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Since age/sex/location‘s release, Lennox has worked with different artists such as Babyface (“Liquor“), Alex Vaughn (“Demon Time“) and Rory (“My Phone Can Die” with James Fauntleroy).
Lennox is on the road with melodic rapper Rod Wave on his Nostalgia Tour, which concludes Dec. 19 in Jacksonville, Florida. Other special guests on the bill include Toosii, G Herbo, and EELmatic.
In recent news, Lennox netted two nominations at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, including Best Female R&B/Soul Artist and Album of the Year for age/sex/location. Keke Palmer hosts the ceremony airing Sunday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on BET and BET Her.
