Ari Lennox gifts her fans with new music to celebrate her 34th birthday (March 26). The DC native has released her new song “Soft Girl Era” via Interscope Records.
On the anthemic track, produced by hitmakers Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, Lennox is ready to devote to someone who will bring peace and balance to her life. It’s a testament to prioritizing self-care by being mindful of who she welcomes into her “Queen Space.”
“Ain’t tryna do nothing but look pretty in here / Hurry up and put me in my soft girl era / In first class, I ain’t goin’ nowhere / Nails, hair, rent paid, take me somewhere,” she sings.
Lennox co-wrote “Soft Girl Era” with Dupri, Cox, Ant Clemons and Gabrielle Rodgers.
In June 2024, Dupri shared behind-the-scenes footage of him in the studio with Lennox, Cox, Clemons, and Rodgers.
“Hit records are made when you laughing, smiling, throwing ideas and having a great f*****g time, day 3 with @arilennox @bryanmichaelcox @elleirbmi @antclemons @jahajohnson,” Dupri wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. Lennox commented under the post, “You’re everything. Thanks for these beautiful records.”
Dupri and Cox produced Lennox’s No. 1 hit “Pressure” from her sophomore album, age/sex/location. The RIAA gold-certified single spent three weeks atop Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Circling back to “Soft Girl Era,” it follows Lennox’s “Smoke,” which was released in October 2024. The retro-soul tune, produced by Bongo ByTheWay and Akeel Henry, peaked at No. 18 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
In late February, Lennox teased that her third album is indeed on the way. “Album coming baby,” she wrote in an Instagram caption for a photo of herself posed by a whiteboard with a blurred tracklist.
Lennox is scheduled to perform at the Dreamville Festival in Raleigh on April 5. Other performers on the bill include Lil Wayne and the Hot Boys, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Keyshia Cole, Ludacris, and 21 Savage.
