Philly’s Boon carves a space out in the electronic indie rock scene that falls somewhere between recent Bon Iver releases and your favorite Animal Collective record. Their newest record Bad Machine fills in those gaps with the sort of eclectic Philly indie rock that’s become its own sort of sound lately. If you don’t believe me, we’ve got an exclusive premiere of the LP’s lead single, “Talking To,” to put your fears to rest.
The band says
“Talking To” is an exploration of how even the most innocuous thoughts can get stuck on an relentless loop. Spiraling and deepening, as you try and claw your way out. However, as the song title suggests, oftentimes the only way out is by actively talking to yourself. Bringing awareness to the vicious cycle, and reminding yourself to slow down, breathe, and give it time to naturally dissipate. The only way out is through, right? And then, only when you’re finally able to step back, can you see the surprising beauty in it all… There’s a certain wonder to the way everything shape shifts… the thoughts, feelings, and spaces. The song is a mantra. If you can just stand back, observe, and talk to yourself, you’ll be okay.
Stream “Talking To,” and its video, below.
Bad Machine is out September 2 on Windowsill Records.
