Britney Spears fans will be saying “I Wanna Go” to Broadway, because a musical inspired by the singer is coming there.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Once Upon a One More Time will combine classic fairy-tale characters with the stacked catalogue of Spears to create a show unlike any other before it.
A statement about the show reveals that it is a “musical adventure about claiming your own happily ever after.” Additionally, the publication reports that Spears’ songs “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus” and “Toxic” will all appear in the play.
As for the premise, that involves a fairy-tale book club interrupted by a rogue fairy godmother, who drops a copy of The Feminine Mystique into the laps of the characters in order to show them life outside of “bird-made dresses and true love’s kiss.”
Spears is not credited as a producer, but it is worth noting that she was present for an early reading in 2019 and has called the event “a dream come true for me.”
“I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore,” she said in a statement, according to Playbill.
The show is set to be produced by James L. Nederlander and Hunter Arnold. It will also be directed and choreographed Keone and Mari Madrid.
Once Upon a One More Time is set to appear at the Marquis Theatre on June 23 with a preview taking place on May 13.
