Indie rock meets rural psychedelia, A Fragile Tomorrow brings the listener into a dream-like state with “It’s Better That Way”. Done with the greatest amount of dignity, they bring to mind a latter-day Modest Mouse. Given the newfound interest in a distinctive 90s sound, A Fragile Tomorrow does great work in positioning them at the forefront of this movement. They certainly have the chops from the guitar riffs that race on through to the rhythms that feature a tautness to them. Lyrically they opt for a degree of poetry with the many verses cascading downwards in a regal fashion.
Fuzzed-out aesthetics start things off in gusto with “All Signs To Amsterdam”. Here their debt to shoegaze is undeniable as there is a noise infused with melody aspect to the entire thing, something that is doubly refreshing to behold. Vocals rise above this din in a way that lends them a degree of mysticism. Wonderful treatment of sound comes through as “Superball” has a gargantuan presence to it, with the riffs gaining a stately aspect to them for they burst forth onto the scene with gleeful abandon. A nice take on dance-rock defines “Look Out!” as the drummer works double time with the rest of the sound going for a truly vista-like sprawl into the infinite.
“It’s Better That Way” features the impeccable chops of A Fragile Tomorrow for they create a sound that feels simultaneously timeless and of this moment in time.
