In December 2024, guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams took to social media teasing the return of Nevermore in 2025. In March, they revealed a new Nevermore lineup is now complete and that they are “gearing up for the next chapter of Nevermore.” The band’s fanbase is quite naturally divided on these developments, as many people believe there cannot be a Nevermore without vocalist Warrel Dane, who passed away in 2017.
Loomis addressed the subject in a new interview with VegaTrem. Check it out below.
Loomis: “It was something that I’ve been talking with to Van Williams for, I would say, three years, about reforming Nevermore. The whole subject comes up, is it proper (to reform the band) when a singer passes away? I think it is. I think that there were some things that were left unsaid, and I think we had more things to say musically. It’s unfortunate that Warrel Dane passed away – he was one of my best friends – but I really, honestly believe that Van and I and the rest of the new band (will do the band’s legacy justice), and we are scheduling shows already for 2026.”
“With everybody’s input in the band, it’s gonna be really cool. The (new) musicians are absolutely fantastic and are able to play all the stuff perfectly, and the singer’s able to sing almost exactly like Warrel. But he’s got a death metal voice; he’s got different ways he can use his voice, and we wanna utilize that. So, it’s gonna be cool.”
In a new message, Jeff Loomis talks about the band’s return to Wacken, stating: “Hey everybody. Jeff Loomis here from the band Nevermore. Great news for everyone, we are going to be making a return to Wacken after almost 16 years. Next year, in 2026, we make our return to the Wacken stage along with some new band members and possibly some new songs as well. But we’ll definitely be playing you the old classics and rocking the stage. Be there.”
