On Tuesday (April 15th), Journey guitarist Neal Schon shared a mysterious message to his Twitter/X. Posting an image that simply said “Journey Beyond,” the tweet left fans speculating about what it could mean and about the band’s future plans.
“I’m intrigued. Would be great if there was new music behind this as well,” one fan commented. “New music? New tour? Give us another clue, Neal,” another fan wrote.
A few fans even theorized that the cryptic message could indicate the return of former Journey frontman Steve Perry.
Last year, singer Arnel Pineda – who has been with Journey since 2007 – offered to leave the band if enough fans voted him out after he received online criticism for his performance at Rock in Rio.
Pineda struggled to sing a few notes during Journey’s show at the annual Brazilian festival, with clips of the performance being widely circulated online.
“No one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this,” the singer posted on Facebook after the concert. “It’s really amazing how [a] thousand right things you have done will be forgotten just cause of THIS… and of all the place[s], it’s Rock in Rio. Mentally and emotionally, I’ve suffered already, and I’m still suffering.”
The vocalist went on to say that he feels “immense gratitude, humility and honor” every time he’s on stage with Journey, but offered to quit the band if that is what fans want.
“So here’s the deal now, I am offering you a chance (especially those who hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text GO or STAY right here.. and if GO reaches 1 million… I’m stepping out for good.”
At the time, Neal Schon chimed in, commenting on Pineda’s Facebook post, writing: “Arnel don’t listen to these blogs. They are all bought. You’ve kicked *ss!”
