The legendary Savatage (Johnny Lee Middleton – bass, Chris Caffery – guitars, Al Pitrelli – guitars, Jeff Plate – drums, and Zak Stevens – vocals) have released a teaser video for their upcoming performance at Monsters Of Rock 2025, on April 19 in São Paulo, Brazil. Watch below:
Savatage recently announced tour dates across Europe for summer 2025, with a mix of festival appearances and headline shows.
Speaking with Rock Antenne, Chris Caffery revealed what’s is store for the fans in terms of a setlist.
Caffery: “We’re looking at the obvious: which songs does it seem like people are listening to on a daily basis? You’re able to see that now (with online streaming); you get a good idea of which ones you have to do. And with Zak singing everything, we have to be kind to him because he’s gonna be doing an awful lot of singing, and some of that stuff that was Jon (Oliva / original vocalist) on the recordings. It’s not Zak’s natural voice to be singing that, so we don’t wanna put too much pressure on him to have to do too much of that. So, of course, we wanna go a little heavy on the things that Zak had sang, but we’re still doing a lot of the classics.”
“You wanna have a good variety. There’s so many of the songs that had the counterpoint vocals in it where the multiple vocals were going, and that kind of thing. I just know that songs like ‘Chance’ definitely had a marriage with the live crowds that was very special. You just remember what worked, and you try to put it all together. Of course, we have a festival set time and then a headlining set time. And we’re getting together extra songs so we can maybe swap around the headline shows since there’s only a few of ’em.”
Says Zak Stevens: As you can imagine, there are so many special things about these shows that are racing through my mind. We get to play a series of headline shows for the first time in over twenty years that will put us right back in front of all of the unbelievable fans who have given us so many unforgettable memories over the last three decades. Here’s our chance to directly give back to everyone who’s been there supporting us all these years! All the great festival shows are going to be off-the-charts amazing. It’s even hard to imagine the scale of excitement that’s going to take place with those shows.
Savatage mastermind Jon Oliva expressed his disappointment at not being able to join the band for the shows, but shared his excitement, stating: I am very excited for the guys to be doing some shows. Unfortunately, due to health issues, I will not be able to join the guys for this run. Hopefully, this is just temporary. I will continue working in the studio on new music for the future. These shows will be awesome and I will be working with them to get it all ready for you. I know everyone is going to love it!!! Me and the guys are very excited and ready to kick ass! So from me, thank you all for the support for all these years and we can’t wait to rock you!
