Journey Montana has enlisted fellow rising R&B singer Eli Derby for the official remix of her single “You.”
“It’s such a passionate song to me, and I think Eli really embodies the intensity and emotional depth the song can have from a male perspective,” Montana tells Rated R&B.
Derby appears in the second verse of the devotional ballad, singing, “The sky could be falling / The world could go to flames / But none of that matters / Because you’re the one I’d spend my last days with.”
The lovers’ anthem, produced by Camper, was originally released in July via 10K Projects.
“Simply put, ‘You’ is a love song. The song embodies the fire you feel in your chest when you love every part of someone,” Montana explained.
“Yearning and desperation, but pure raw emotion. You saved me, so I love you, and I’ll do anything for you. I belong to you, and it doesn’t matter if you belong to me.”
“You” is the second single, following the autobiographical “Journey,” from Montana’s upcoming debut album, where did the sun go?
Montana is currently on the road with genre-bending artist Capella Grey on The Terribly Responsible Tour.
They have upcoming stops in Toronto, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., before concluding Dec. 15 in Atlanta. Tickets are available at terriblyresponsible.com.
As for Eli Derby, the DMV native has dropped four singles this year: “Her Type,” “Run It Up,” “All The Time,” and “Girl Calm Down.” Before that, the former LVRN/Interscope Records artist released two EPs in 2022: Left On Read and More Than Friends.
