Life of Agony’s Mina Caputo has decided to remove implants and return to male identity.
Mina Caputo opens up on the decision
“Yes. I’m off of hormones six, seven years now,” the singer said in a 13-minute Instagram video. “And this January 2025, I am… my surgery has been booked to remove my fake breasts and I will be lovingly living in my divine male self.”
She continued, “I’ve cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years, a lot of walking through the fire, but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit. That’s a completely different topic and video, so I won’t unpack all of that now.”
“I just wanted to share with you guys, once again, that I am off hormone therapy six, seven years when ‘A Place Where There’s No More Pain’ was made with Life of Agony. That was in 2016. And I’ve been existing in a different version of myself and a more healed version of myself,” Caputo also added in her message.
She has planned to change her name back to Keith after fully detransitioning in 2025. In the rest of the video, Caputo explained her decision, saying she’s ‘cured’ her gender dysphoria after years of self-healing and therapy. Mina criticized hormone treatments, especially for children, due to her own difficult experiences with side effects.
Life of Agony bassist and co-founder Alan Robert commented, “Proud of your journey and your raw honesty. Always here for you no matter what. We ain’t blood but we are real family.”
From 1989 to 2006, Mina performed under her birth name, Keith Caputo. She began her transition in 2008 and first used the name Mina on her 2013 solo album, *As Much Truth As One Can Bear.* She subsequently released another solo album, *Love Hard,* in 2016, as well as two more albums with the band Life of Agony.
“When I was Keith, I certainly wouldn’t allow myself to be as flowery or as vulnerable as I do now,” Caputo shared in a 2016 interview on the music website No Echo. “I’m a f*cking sissy, get over it [laughs]! I no longer have this masculinity or this manhood to protect. This is a transformation I’ve been dreaming of my entire life.”
Life of Agony will start their ‘Up Close & Unplugged’ European tour in December. The tour begins on December 6 in Kinrooi, Belgium, and ends on December 18th in Wrocław, Poland.
