Swedish progressive metal legends Opeth are wrapping up their fall North American headlining tour, which began in Milwaukee, WI. The tour will officially conclude tomorrow, Halloween night, in San Francisco, CA, with support from fellow Swedes, gothic metal band Tribulation.
We caught the Brooklyn, NY tour stop at the lavish Kings Theatre on October 18th, where Opeth delivered a powerful 13-song set. They kicked off the set with the lead track from their upcoming album, The Last Will and Testament (due on November 22 via Reigning Phoenix Music), delivering the fresh “§1” and later working in the LP’s third song, the epic “§3.” The band took fans on a thrilling journey through fan-favorites like “The Leper Affinity,” “The Grand Conjuration,” “Demon of the Fall,” “Heir Apparent,” and “Ghost of Perdition” during their main set. They even brought smiles to the crowd with a surprise rendition of Napalm Death’s one-second song, “You Suffer.” For their encore finale, the band played the title track from their 2016 album Sorceress and the title track from their 2002 album Deliverance.
Tribulation entertained the crowd before Opeth’s set with a seven-song performance that featured several new tracks from their upcoming album, Sub Rosa in Æternum, set to release on November 1 via Century Media Records. They kicked off their set with the goth-punk anthem “Tainted Skies” and later included “Hungry Waters” and “Saturn Coming Down.” Their set was rounded out by songs from their records Down Below, The Formulas of Death, and The Children of the Night.
Beginning in February, Opeth will join forces with Grand Magus for a series of European tour dates, including stops in Helsinki, Stockholm, Cologne, Amsterdam, and more. Check out all the upcoming tour dates here.
Tribulation will also be touring Europe early next year to celebrate the release of their new record. The tour will include stops in Copenhagen, London, Warsaw, Berlin, and more, with support from the fresh doom metal act Livgone. Check out all the upcoming tour dates here.
