This time last year Columbus, OH, trio Manor Gates was counting down the days to the release of their debut full-length So Much Brooding. Now to celebrate they’re counting down the days to the release of their new single. It’s called “Type 3 Fun,” and it’s the sort of mathy, shoutalong emo-pop the band’s been perfecting for a couple years. It’s officially out on November first, but we’ve got an exclusive premiere of the song and its video a few days early.
The band shares that
“Type 3 fun is an activity that is difficult or unpleasant while it’s happening, and remains unpleasant to reflect on afterwards. It’s often the result of an activity that was intended to be fun, but things went wrong.” The song itself is written from a place of being in a depressive or isolated state and not wanting to leave it just yet, a tribute to needing to “sit in the soup” for a while and reflect on what the next steps should be. The video is us recording the single over a 3-day period with our producer Jakob Mooney at Vaughan Music Studios and his home studio, Mooney Recordings. It’s meant to be the opposite of what the song represents and show how dumb and goofy we are in real life.
Check it out below.
