Itâs been a busy year for OVO Soundâs first lady, Naomi Sharon. She graced fans with âNothing Sweeterâ and âGoodbyes (Myrrh)â with DJ Snake before being picked up for Tems’ âBorn In The Wild World Tourâ as a supporting act.
On Friday (Sept. 20), the âDefinition of Loveâ singer spoke with Billboard about being discovered by Drake, getting feedback from the Canadian hitmaker, and most importantly, why they havenât released a song together yet. âI donât force things,â she admitted.
âWe spoke about it, but itâs also whenever we feel it makes sense. I donât think itâs gonna be a conversation,â Sharon told the publication. âWeâre both very sensitive people when it comes to hearing music. Whenever he hears something that will be great, then [weâll do it]. That would be amazing.â
Drake has a habit of collaborating with his OVO signees. He and PARTYNEXTDOOR have created magic on records like âCome and See Me,â âRecognize,â âOver Here,â and âLoyal.â Additionally, they have a joint album due in the fall season. dvsn contributed their vocals to âFaithfulâ on 2016âs Views. Other label acts include Popcaan (âWe Caa Doneâ), Majid Jordan (âStars Alignâ), and Roy Woods (âDramaâ).
Sharon signed to OVO Sound in 2023, followed by her releasing Obsidian by the yearâs end. The 13-song offering contained surefire cuts like âAnother Life,â âTime And Trust,â and âPushâ featuring Omah Lay. As the songstress revealed, Drake is the reason for uptempo tracks being on the LP.
âHe was like, âI can see you in different worlds that you can make your own. Why donât you challenge yourself to go upbeat?â I made neo-soul the first few songs. He was like, âYou can do that with your sound and with your world and cross over,ââ Sharon detailed. âI actually was inspired by that.â
