MattO’s songs have an immediate effect, and the sound stays with the listener long after they’ve pressed stop. The singer songwriter has made it his mission to sing about the real things in his life, things that everyone can relate to; the issues and emotions that matter to us all. With his new single and video, ‘Reeling’, MattO brings his astute social commentary to the fore, in a way which speaks to everyone, as we all look for answers in this crazy troubled world.
We certainly seem to be living in a dangerous place these days, including climate change, culture wars, the seeming end of democracy, migration, and political instability across the world. MattO covers all these subjects and more in ‘Reeling’, and with lines such as, “We reel, but keep stumbling on/We fear the happy days are gone/ We fear nothing can be done/ And we hate to think we should have known” MattO shows us that we’re fighting a battle about values more than we have in the past 50 years. Just like the late 1960s, the way of the world will determine the course of our societies, and it’s up to us to fight for what we believe in, and take our destiny into our own hands.
MattO is asking us to consider what world we want to live in – we need to reassess our values, to make sure we don’t end up with the future our current governments seem to have planned for us.
Of course, this incredible song comes with an equally exceptional video. For this live clip, MattO has collaborated with Luca Meneghello on guitar, and Sandro de Bellis on drums and percussion – two Italian musicians he’s not only worked with for the better part of 20 years, but also two artists who’ve risen to the top of their careers as studio and live musicians. Directed by Marcello Bumbica, the video for ‘Reeling’ captures this live performance by the artists, shot in Milan last summer of 2023.
