World acclaimed UK singer/Songwriter, rock promoter, multi- instrumentalist, and so much more Tony Moore (The Cutting Crew, Original Member of Iron Maiden) released a powerful, heart-throbbing song “Blood and Roses” on the 60th Anniversary of the death of President JFK which was inspired by the late superstar Meat Loaf.
Raised in Dallas Texas, 16 year old Meat Loaf and friends drove a secret service agent to the hospital after learning that JFK had been shot. The agent stopped their car and ordered that he’d be driven there quickly. After dropping him at the main entrance in record time they realized the President’s limo was parked there and upon closer look realized that it was filled with Blood and Roses. UK artist Tony Moore who had been writing songs regarding moments in Meat Loaf’s life for his next album immediately sat down and wrote the song “Blood and Roses.” Unfortunately, soon after Meat Loaf passed.
Tony and I exchanged questions and answers about the song and his experience after being invited by Meat Loaf to write songs for him…..
Your new release “Blood and Roses” was inspired by the death of JFK via Meatloaf. What inspired you regarding “Meatloaf?”
I worked briefly with Meat Loaf as a keyboard player in the mid 80’s when he was in the UK, however we lost touch and it wasn’t until late in 2021 when I was approached by a friend who was in talks with Meat Loaf about making a new album that a connection was remade as my friend pitched one of my songs to him. I then started work on some new material and realized after reading many articles and seeing a lot of interviews, that Meat Loaf had experienced some amazing things in his life. I decided to try and write a series of songs about his life, sung from his own perspective. When I discovered that Meat Loaf had been born and raised in Dallas, and that he and his two friends Jimmy and Billy had gotten caught up in the events surrounding the assassination of JFK on November 22nd 1963, and then I knew I had to write a song about that day.
Aside from this song what are you planning to do with the other songs inspired by Meatloaf?
For the time being I am concentrating on introducing Blood and Roses to the world. When enough people know the history of the song and my involvement with him, then maybe there could be an opportunity to release other songs and possibly mold the body of work into something as a tribute to Meat Loaf in my own humble way.
How does the death of JFK reflect in British history?
I think the whole world was shocked and stunned by the event. I think it had a chilling effect on the people of the UK, as he was such a popular President all around the Globe.
This is a perfect tribute song for the 60th Anniversary of the death of JFK, and realistic as well, did you study the history books before writing it?
The song is pretty accurate to the events that Meat Loaf and his friends experienced on that fateful day, however, I didn’t do any specific research on the rest of the events. To be honest, I think so much of that has been revealed and analyzed over the last 60 years, that I have absorbed an enormous amount of information by a kind of public osmosis.
How do you hope the song will inspire the world?
I hope that it will shine the spotlight on a part of Meat Loaf’s life that many didn’t know, as well as serve to re-imagine that day for everyone from a totally different angle and tell a story that has never been shared in music.
Will you be touring in support?
I will be doing a 2 month UK tour to support my show “AWAKE” in January and February next year. Blood And Roses will be part of the encore section.
What’s next for Tony in 2024 and beyond?
Well, the aforementioned AWAKE tour and subsequent album release is my next priority. I have done around 60 London shows to packed houses and next year I get the chance to share the music with a whole new audience around the UK. My bigger goal is to bring “AWAKE” to the USA and eventually to have the show perform over a longer period as a Las Vegas residency.
