What’s up? It’s your old boy Waldo here, to inform you about some new and upcoming releases—good, bad or otherwise. Remember, I’m not an elitist, you just have terrible taste.
Ah, geeze, man… Napalm Records strikes again with Tragedy. No, not the great crust punkish band Tragedy, but one form New York (shame on them, do your homework and google your band names folks) they should have known better. A few keyboard strokes and, viola! The internet reveals your band name is NOT original, and the guitar player wears eye makeup ala the late, great Hank Von Hell, but I digress. Self-confessed “disco metal,” this stuff is as corny as can be. From their bio: “Tragedy’s concept has always been to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, inverting the yin and the yang. Here we celebrate various themes of womanhood.” You really have to listen to this stuff to hear how unbelievably stupid and a waste of time this is. “Metal” covers of woman centric songs such as “Venus” (credited to Bananarama—again, DO YOUR RESEARCH), “Le Freak” and “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Some might even find this funny for a bit, but trust me, the sheen really wears off by the second listen. Now I am certainly not one to take metal super seriously, and I believe in having fun with the genre, but I can’t believe ANY label, much less Napalm put this out. 0 Fucking Pecks.
Polish grind outfit Nuclear Holocaust is releasing Sailing Seas of Nuclear Waste on Selfmadegod Records. Being a little more on the punk side of grind is something this birdbrain pecking loves. Reminiscent of Phobia, Rot and PLF, this record packs a punch. Now that I listen to it a little more, I hear a lot of thrash mixed in here. The growled vocals, skank beats and ripping guitar abound. Even our own favorite magazine states, “if you’re more in the mood for a boot to the head—and who isn’t, really—it will deliver that, with a side of garbage can vocals.” Well said. Obviously, the new record isn’t out but here is a good idea of the general sound. 7 Fucking Pecks.
Waldo out? Waldo out!
