Emerging singer Mikhala Jené is gearing up to release her major label debut EP, The Missing Peace. It will arrive on Friday, Oct. 14, via Def Jam. In anticipation of the forthcoming project, Jené teams up with Rated R&B to premiere a short film dubbed The Missing Peace.
The four-minute visual examines an unspoken tension between Jené and an on-screen partner while illustrating love’s ups and downs.
The short film incorporates three songs from Jené’s upcoming EP, including “My Rock,” “All I Ever Wanted” and the latest focus track, “Human Nature.”
“What I want fans to take away from this short film is the reality of just how easy it is to lose yourself in someone you love and the resentment that can develop over time,” Jené exclusively tells Rated R&B. “I became someone I couldn’t recognize because I was seeing myself through their eyes.”
Jené says the short film is just a snapshot of what she conveys on The Missing Peace EP. She explains, “The EP definitely gives a more in-depth view of the spectrum of emotions I experienced in my effort to find peace of mind. When writing this project, I really leaned into my faith like never before. I didn’t know how I would get to the other side, but I knew in time that eventually I would get over the hump and be better because of it.”
The Missing Peace will follow Jené’s 2018 EP, Carolina Blues. She recorded the upcoming effort with Grammy-nominated producer and frequent collaborator Deputy, who’s worked with artists such as Mack Wilds and Ne-Yo.
Circling back to Carolina Blues, the EP featured songs like the focus track “Stay” and “Mad Bitches.” The latter ranks as her second most-popular song on Spotify, exceeding over one million streams since releasing in August 2018. She shared a remix to “Stay” featuring Tone Stith.
