Jessie Reyez remains on the campaign trail for her sophomore album Yessie. As part of Latinx Heritage Month, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter visits NPR’s headquarters for its ElTiny series, a limited extension of its Tiny Desk series.
The set comprises new material from Yessie, including “Mutual Friend” and “Only One.” The ruthless, former track, produced by Rykeyz, was released in August as the album’s lead single.
Reyez revisits her 2020 debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us and performs “Figures” and “Imported,” which she mashes with new stuff.
Yessie was released on Sept. 16 via FMLY/Island Records. The 11-track effort features a new song with 6LACK titled “Forever,” also part of Reyez’s ElTiny setlist. She co-produced it with Pomo, who has worked with artists such as Jon Batiste and Anderson .Paak.
Of the new album, Reyez said, “I’m in a different space. I’ve been growing. I’ve been taking inventory of my mental state. Watching my thoughts. Making sure the little voice in my head is actually on my side. Showing myself the grace that I so often show others. Be more present and being open. That’s what the album is about — Yessie.”
Beginning Oct. 13, Reyez will hit the road for her headlining Yessie Tour. It kicks off at The Oasis in Miami, Florida, and concludes on Jan. 31 at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, England.
