As comfortable as a new music industry member might be, it doesn’t necessarily mean the dollars are rolling in. Moonlighting in a blue-collar position is still necessary while working toward achieving dreams as an artist. This situation pertains to rising singer Ria Barkr and her new song “Monday.”
Paring her smoky voice across a complicated piano and guitar production, Barkr is exhausted with an unforgiving regular job that consumes her time to record and write music, which is her true passion.
“I pay the bills with a job I don’t like / Got Monday on my mind / Always watchin’ the clock / Monday on my mind / Wanna take the day off,” she sings.
Of “Monday,” Barkr says it “tells a story that encourages people to pursue their passion even when it doesn’t feel possible. This song definitely lets the listener in on how I felt when I was working a job that didn’t align with my purpose.”
“Monday” is the fourth song released from Barkr this year. It follows “Stopwatch,” which was released in June. Barkr unrolled “Work for It” as the first song of 2022 in March before she hit the court with “Tennis” the following month.
All four tracks are expected to appear on Barkr’s forthcoming debut EP, coming later this fall.
